Christmas shopping: Delays and skyrocketing prices for Playstations, Lego and cars
Aussies could face “skyrocketing” prices at major retailers for electronics, toys, cars and even vitamins due to global supply chain issues, with warnings to shop early or risk having no presents under the Christmas tree. One of Australia’s leading freight specialists, Global Forwarding has issued the dire warning ahead of the busiest shopping months of the year.
Its director Enrica Centorame – whose clients include some of the country’s biggest retailers – told News.com.au that it’s the worst she’s seen the global supply chain in 25 years. She said the enormous reduction in international flights coming into Australia and huge delays and dramas at shipping ports means it’s impossible to meet demand.
Current disruptions experienced in the global supply chain are due in large part to Covid-outbreaks at key shipping ports, explained Ms Centorame, while the spread of the Delta variant throughout South East Asia is also impacting both productivity and production.
