Privacy Policy

Global Forwarding Pty Ltd (hereinafter called “we”, “us”) have committed ourselves to protecting your privacy and to ensuring full compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles outlined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (“the Act”). Our Privacy Policy explains how we manage and protect your personal information. It also describes how you can access and seek correction of the information we hold about you and how you can make a complaint about our privacy practices. The Act defines personal information as information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not (“Personal Information”).

By visiting our website, or using our services, or otherwise providing us with your Personal Information (including authorising it to be provided to us by someone else), you agree to your Personal Information being collected and handled as set out in this Privacy Policy. 

The kinds of Personal Information we collect and use is determined by nature of our business and the type of service we provide. As a customer, it will generally include your name, address, email address, telephone numbers, details about your business and transactional information on your account. 

We obtain most Personal Information directly from you, when you deal with us over the telephone, send us written communications (whether by letter, fax or email), open an account with us, use our website, or visit our office. We may also collect information about you that is publicly available, including information from other websites There may be occasions where we may collect Personal Information about you from third parties,  for instance, from other agencies that may be involved in the services we provide, or  anyone you have authorised to deal with us on your behalf.

We collect and use Personal Information so that we can conduct our business and provide our services in acting as agent for you. In particular, we need to collect and use Personal Information to interact with other agencies and companies involved in the services we provide and to meet contractual and regulatory obligations and requirements.

We will not sell, trade, or rent your Personal Information, or our databases, to third parties. All the Personal Information collected will be kept strictly confidential. It will be stored in secure computer storage facilities maintained within our computer network and hard copy files. We use a range of measures to protect the confidentiality and security of our clients’ Personal Information, including implementing a number of procedural, software and hardware safeguards, frequently updating our anti-virus software and training our staff. While we take all reasonable security precautions to protect your Personal Information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, we will not be held responsible for any loss or damage caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
We may disclose your Personal Information to third parties in the following circumstances:

  1. in order to comply with the applicable legal or regulatory requirements and/or orders of competent authorities 
  2. In order to enforce or apply the terms of our contract/agreement
  3. In other circumstances  when we reasonably believe we are required to do so by law.

Please note we may not provide you with notice prior to disclosure in such cases.

We may need to disclose your Personal Information to overseas recipients. The most common reason for us disclosing information overseas is because we are required to provide shipment details to the authorities of the country of destination and/or transit, for customs, security, and tax clearance. We may also use agents to perform a range of operational functions on our behalf, some of whom are located overseas. The types of information we disclose would usually include: shipment details, the sender’s and receiver’s names and addresses, description and weight of the goods and the value of shipment. We only disclose your information to those recipients when it is necessary for the purpose of carrying out the work and services which we have been engaged to provide. Due to the nature of our services the overseas recipients may be located in any country in the world.  When we disclose your information to an organisation located overseas, we are required to take measures to ensure your information is treated in accordance with the standards that apply in Australia.

You have the right to seek access to your Personal Information which has been collected and held by us. You also have the right to ask us to modify your Personal Information when it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, or to delete your personal information. To do so forward your request in writing to us as per the contact details set out below. We will need to verify your identity prior to acting on your request. We will endeavour to respond to your request within 7 business days.

You have the right to complain if you believe that your privacy has been compromised or if you believe that we have not complied with the Act or the Australian Privacy Principles. To do so please contact our Director or General Manager at the contact details set out below. We will endeavour to resolve your complaint within 10 business days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer the matter to the Commissioner for Privacy and Data Protection.
