Santa’s sleigh stuck in the shipping lane
Supply chain experts are warning Christmas shoppers to get moving, with shortages of some popular consumer goods considered a certainty in the run-up to the festive season. Bicycles and sporting goods, including tennis racquets and cricket gear, are going to be in short supply as the global shipping crisis deepens, according to Global Forwarding Director Enrica Centrorame.
Ms Centorame, whose company is one of Australia’s key freight forwarding businesses, has told The Age Economics Editor Noel Towell that her clients were having huge difficulty getting sports gear, traditionally popular as Christmas presents. Shoppers are being advised to get in early or order online. Alternatively, Ms Centorame said “just adjust your expectations for Christmas and maybe have a Christmas in July!”
